paid Internship policy
(FOR NURSING GRADUATES OF BATCHES 003 AND ONWARD)
- Purpose
This policy establishes a transparent, merit-based, and standardized framework for the placement of nursing graduates into paid internship programs at affiliated partner hospitals, in compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional MoUs.
- Scope
This policy applies to:
- All nursing graduates of Midwest Institute of Sciences, Islamabad
- All affiliated partner hospitals offering paid internship positions
- Career Office of the Institute, responsible for coordinating graduate placements and internships in line with the established MoUs
- Regulatory Framework
This policy is governed by:
- Guidelines of Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Affiliation and academic standards of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University
- Terms outlined in Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with partner hospitals
- Partner Hospitals
- The Institute currently collaborates with eight (8) multi-specialty partner hospitals
- Each hospital allocates a fixed quota of internship slots for Midwest graduates as per MoU
- The Institute aims to expand partnerships to ten (10) hospitals by 2028
- Eligibility Criteria
Graduates must meet the following requirements:
- Successful completion of the eight-semester nursing program
- Minimum CGPA of 3.0
- Submission of a duly completed Internship Registration Proforma
The Midwest Institute of Sciences, Islamabad aims to provide competent and academically sound graduates to its partner hospitals. Therefore, a minimum CGPA requirement of 3.0 has been established. In accordance with the grading system of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, this is equivalent to approximately 75%, ensuring that graduates meet an appropriate academic standard for clinical training.
- Internship Application Process
- Eligible graduates submit the Internship Registration Proforma to the Institute
- The Career Office compiles applications and communicates requests to partner hospitals
- Partner hospitals announce:
- Written test schedules
- Interview dates
- The Career Office disseminates all updates to graduates
- Selection Process
- Selection is conducted solely by partner hospitals based on:
- Written test performance
- Interview evaluation
- The Career Office facilitates coordination but does not influence selection
- Final selection lists are communicated to the Institute by partner hospitals
- Notification of Selection
- Selected candidates are formally informed through the Institute by the concerned partner hospital
- Candidates must confirm acceptance within the stipulated timeframe
- Internship Structure
- Duration: 12 months (Paid Internship Program)
- Structured rotational clinical training in accordance with PN&MC guidelines
- Stipend and Benefits
- Interns receive a monthly stipend/remuneration
- Payments are governed by hospital-specific MoU clauses
- The Institute is not responsible for stipend disbursement
- Roles and Responsibilities
Institute Responsibilities
- Verify eligibility of graduates
- Facilitate coordination between graduates and partner hospitals
- Ensure compliance with PN&MC and SZABMU standards
- Maintain internship records
Career Office Responsibilities
- Coordinate graduate placements and internship processes
- Ensure implementation of MoU-based procedures
- Communicate with partner hospitals and graduates
Partner Hospital Responsibilities
- Conduct fair and merit-based selection
- Provide structured clinical training
- Ensure stipend payments as per MoU
- Evaluate intern performance
Intern Responsibilities
- Follow hospital policies and professional ethics
- Complete assigned clinical rotations
- Maintain attendance and performance standards
- Comply with PN&MC internship requirements
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Continuous performance monitoring by partner hospitals
- Periodic reporting to the Institute
- Feedback mechanisms for quality improvement
- Certification
- Upon successful completion of the 12-month internship:
- Certificates issued by respective partner hospitals
- Recognition in accordance with PN&MC requirements
- Compliance and Amendments
This policy may be revised in accordance with:
- Updates from Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Changes in affiliation requirements of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University
- Institutional or partner hospital MoU revisions
- Applicability
This policy will be applied to BS Nursing Batch 003 and onward batches of the Institute.
